Atlanta Graffiti
Finding an apartment in Atlanta can be a daunting task. Where should I live? How long will my commute be? What neighborhood is the most expensive? Well, here’s a breakdown of each district in the Atlanta Metro Area to help you narrow down your search. A “district” of Atlanta is basically just a town within a city, as many of these districts have a personality all their own and something unique to offer.
East Atlanta Village: the EAV, as its residents affectionately call it, is known for its tolerant and therefore eclectic neighborhood demographics. It mostly appeals to young people and young families. With a booming art district, city-wide celebrations and funky boutiques, it is one of the trendiest places to live in Atlanta.
Midtown: Midtown is a shopping and business hub. The continuing build-up of “Midtown Mile” and Atlantic Station makes this a mixed-use haven in the city. Midtown aims to be a place where you can walk to work from home and have plenty of options for shopping, eating and nightlife on the way. Other neighborhoods in Midtown include SoNo (South of North Ave.) and Five Points. Midtown is also home to Georgia Tech, so there is ample housing to accommodate the growing student population.
The Highlands: Virginia-Highland and Poncey-Highland make up this area of Central Atlanta. This is also a hip district to live in, especially for twenty-somethings and young families. The walkable, tree-lined streets and boutique shopping make this a cozy neighborhood with an active community.
Buckhead: Buckhead has the reputation for being high-dollar and fast-paced. It is part of the business epicenter of Atlanta, along with Downtown and Midtown. Buckhead is home to a thriving nightlife district and many locally-owned antique and boutique stores, as well as the nationally known Lenox Square with every luxury brand store imaginable.
Little Five Points: This neighborhood is known for its colorfulness. With beautiful graffiti scribbled on the sides of buildings, this is where you are most likely to find tattoo parlors, vintage clothing shops, coffee shops, vinyl stores, music venues and delicious ethnic food. This area is also mostly hip, young people.
Vinings: Vinings has a small population of about 10,000 and is a beautiful little town that almost allows you to forget that you are near Georgia’s biggest city. Vinings is a quiet, serene breath of fresh air. The tree-lined streets, spacious apartments, and boutique shopping is all relatively new… or looks that way. Vinings would be a perfect place for a family, and the commute isn’t too bad, as it is situated between Smyrna and Buckhead.
Smyrna: Smyrna is located at the northern intersection of I-285 and I-75, which makes it easily accessible. It is also considered a “suburb” of Atlanta, but the closest one. Smyrna is home to the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center (CEPAC) and the Cumberland Mall, which draws a lot of visitors. Smyrna has an adorable city center that boasts Market Village which creates its downtown area. With about 41,000 residents, it is a sizeable town with a sense of community.
